SINGAPORE GREEN RENDERING
In the 1960s, the Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew envisioned Singapore as a ‘Garden City in the heart of Asia’. In 1963, he planted the first tree to start the campaign to make Singapore green. Since then, open spaces were turned into parks and gardens, they planted tens of thousands of trees from different varieties. PM Lee noted that if Singapore could sustain its greening efforts and become attractive for foreigner investors.
This pragmatical vision of that time is still working towards and evolving and the entire island is transformed into one beautiful tropical garden, within which the urban infrastructure is nestled. The Clean and Green Singapore (CGS) campaign has been kicking around for close to two decades now and it’s one of the longest in the island’s history. 900ha of land has been set aside for the development of new parks over the next 10 to 15 years. Prime waterfront land around the Marina Bay has been earmarked for the development of the Gardens by the Bay.
His vision 50 years ago was revolutionary and now Singapore is soften the harshness of urbanization with green building and project and it become an example for all others Asian metropolis.
